National Kindness Day 2/17

When the fire

Roared through the canyon,

And we waited

With bated breath,

Clinging to one another,

As the clouds

Of smoke blotted out the sun,

We forgot to judge.

We forgot to ask who was worthy

Of our time,

Our wearied smiles,

Our outstretched hands.

We simply offered to do

What we could.

We forgot to judge.

Perhaps today,

We could do that again.
