Am I complicit when I pray?

When I seek and search to stay true

To my baptismal promise

In the face of true evil?

Am I complicit when I don’t spit on the shoes

of the evil doers?

And when I strive to find the

Inherent humanity within

Even when it’s invisible?

Am I complicit when I remind myself

To always search for another

And not for an other?

Or would I be complicit if I fed the

Hate

Instead of embracing the

Hope?

If I fed the

Darkness

Instead of the

Light?

If I stoked the fire of rage,

Instead of seeking the path

Toward peace?

Am I complicit when I pray

For the very things I have

Always prayed?
