Rainbow reflections dance across the narthex.
As glass blocks invite the light in.
My fingers hover, hesitate, before
Slowly dipping into the living water.
Dampened tips linger over the third eye,
My heart,
My left,
My right.
I fight the urge to lift the font
From its pedestal
And pour it over myself.
Full immersion baptism.
When was I last fully submerged -
In baptism, in fire,
in the knowing
Of where God was calling?
When did I last gaze upon the altar
Anticipating the renewal of
Strength and covenant
Within the receiving of bread and wine?
When was I last so full
That ministry was not a choice,
But a manifestation of my heart
Turned inside out for the world to see.
As I find my pew,
The internal waters spring.
I am home in this strange place.
Nay, I am home within my heart.
